A 17-year-old girl who was desperate to have dimples was left covered in blood and in so much pain after she underwent a horror piercing that went terribly wrong.
The horror piercing bled for four days and caused her face to swell up like a balloon. Her face is still swollen three weeks after the botched procedure.
Caitee, a mum-of-one, told 98FM’s Dublin Talks:
“I wanted dimples and I was sitting in a bed one night wondering how to get them and I came across the piercing shop.
“They got a needle and put it through my face and then put a bar in it.
“There’s two balls on each end, one the inside of my cheek and one on the outside and they’re screwed on to stay in place.”
However, Caitee says she knew something was wrong when after the piercer had done just one side of her cheek, she started feeling so much pain and thought she was going to pass out.
She cried out to the owner of the piercing shop and he said:
‘It’ll be grand, it’s grand, just do the other side’.
After the procedure was concluded and Caitiee went home, the piercing started bleeding every time she moved.
“When I woke up the next day the whole side of my face was swollen, even my chin, I couldn’t touch my face.
Caitiee got worried when her lip went numb. So she went to the hospital but doctors refused to remove the piercing, believing it was not professionally done and would go septic.
She was advised to contact the piercer as they believed she may have suffered a burst blood vessel.
Caitiee says she contacted the piercing shop but they refused to accept any blame.
“When I sent him the pictures of it bleeding I was saying I was freaking out, I didn’t know what had happened to my face.
“I just got a message back saying ‘I pierce through thousands of blood vessels everyday, so how could it be that?’
Caitiee still has a scar and says she is “disgusted” by the way the piercing shop handled the situation. She added:
“All I wanted was dimples.”
