Albert Einstein said, “I am enough of an artist to draw freely on my imagination , when I think is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited , Imagination encircles the world.”
Everybody is an architect of their own thoughts but on what foundation are you building these thoughts ? Now this is where knowledge comes in. I am of the opinion that knowledge is more important than imagination. Imagination is rooted from the recombination of things seen , heard or experienced , knowledge is what gives us the power to imagine.
For instance, the invention of the light bulb , Thomas Edison must have gotten motivation from seeing a fire or sunlight and probably thought,’I can make something more redefined that could favour people both during the day and night , since the sun goes out by evening and fire causes a lot of heat’ or let me say the invention of the airplane. The Wright brothers got their inspiration from the knowledge of how a bicycle and a bird operates , they researched on how to achieve the same effect on man made wings , which after so many researches and observations , they were able to invent the first flying machine.
My point exactly is that none of these past inventors could have made it without knowledge . Knowledge is a reality , it is what we know . Imagination is processed knowledge that is , future possibilities that can come out from acquired knowledge. Notwithstanding the fact to what Einstein said that, “knowledge is limited , imagination encircles the world.” , no matter how limited knowledge is , it is still a stepping stone to imagination. Our imagination is and must be grounded by knowledge. It is the complexity of our knowledge that gives rise to our imagination.
